HIGHLIGHTS OF THE COLLECTION
June 6 – August 2, 2009

An outstanding exhibition of works from the museum’s permanent collection, which recently hung in the State Senate Gallery at the State House in Boston, will be a featured show for the summer months. The exhibition is emblematic of the depth of CCMA’s collection with works by both historic and contemporary Cape Cod artists.
Distinguished artists in this exhibition include Impressionist painter John Joseph Enneking (who was friends with Pissarro, Monet and Renoir), Henry Hensche, Ross Moffett, Anne Packard, Selina Trieff, Jerome Thompson, George Grosz, William Davis, and Sam Barber, among others.
Painting shown is “Two Figures: Black, Red,” by Selina Trieff.

Tabitha Vevers:
Narrative Bodies
June 5 - July 19, 2009

NARRATIVE BODIES is a mid-career survey exhibition of the work of painter Tabitha Vevers that highlights the artist’s feminist engagement with tradition and myth. Vevers uses personal narratives that explore the female body and sexuality and old master techniques to address issues that include war, AIDS, environmental degradation, the relationship of the sexes, and women’s historical positions in society. This combination of time-honored representational strategies with contemporary subject matter makes Vevers work both pressing and timeless. The artist was initially compelled to paint the figure in the 1980s by a “desire to take the female nude back from art history and portray her with the complexity of an individual woman’s perspective.”

The Art of Photography/The Photographer’s Art
June 9 through July 19
Photography lends itself to a variety of processes. This exhibition features stunningly diverse examples of the art. Christine Triebert’s soft focus works produce evocative, compositions while the woven images of Bill Hamlin result in richly tactile surfaces. Black and white prints by Ken Ratner and Hyman Hershman reveal a warmly sympathetic camera eye. Focusing upon roses, Georgia Coxe re-presents nature. Martina Lopez creates haunting digital allegories. A show sure to provoke and dazzle the eye. Below: Bill Hamlin, Pool From Above.
